Chemoselective Reduction catalysts
Pd/C, a heterogeneous catalyst, is mainly used for the catalytic hydrogenation. This method gives few side reactions and Pd/C is recoverable and reusable after the reaction. It is widely used because the reduction is able to be carried out efficiently various functional groups under mild neutral conditions. However, it was difficult to selective reduction for multifunctional groups sometimes.
Therefore, we have been commercializing various functional group selective heterogeneous catalysts.
Features
- Functional group selective reduction reaction is possible
- Safe to handle than Pd/C
Application
5% Pd/C(en)
Pd/C(en) is a heterogeneous catalyst whose activity of Pd/C is controlled by ethylenediamine. When selecting an appropriate solvent using Pd/C(en), selective hydrogenation of olefin, acetylene, azides, aromatic ketones, nitro group, benzyl esters, Cbz group of aromatic amines, and aromatic halogens alone is possible.
10% Pd/C(en)
10% Pd/C(en)-catalyzed partial hydrogenation of aromatic ketone to benzyl alcohol.
Regioselective hydrogenolysis of terminal epoxide using 10% Pd/C(en).
Hydrogenation in the presence of O-TBDMS group using 10% Pd/C(en)
Pd/Fib
Pd/Fib is a heterogeneous catalyst in which Pd is immobilized on silk fibroin. Its activity is controlled more than Pd/C(en). the Pd/Fib is easy to handle, e.g., it can be cut with scissors and removed by simple filtration from the reaction mixture. The Pd/Fib catalyzed the chemoselective hydrogenation of the alkyne, alkene and azide functionalities with the readily-reducible benzyl esters and N-Cbz groups left intact.
Pd/PEI
Generally, selective partial hydrogenation of alkynes to alkenes is extremely difficult. The Lindlar’s catalyst uses poisonous Pb at catalyst preparation, so it is a disadvantage from the viewpoint of green chemistry. Furthermore, the semi-hydrogenation of mono-substituted alkynes was prohibitively difficult even using Lindlar's catalyst. Pd/PEI is a catalyst in which Pd is immobilized on polyethyleneimine. It is a catalyst that can solve the above problems.
Os/C
Os/C is a heterogeneous catalyst in which Os is immobilized on activated carbon. Its activity is particularly characteristic. Generally, alkene is more easily hydrogenated than nitro group, but in Os/C, only nitro group can be hydrogenated.
