Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH) ELISA Kits
Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) is a glycoprotein with a molecular weight of approximately 28 kDa. TSH promotes the synthesis and secretion of thyroid hormones by stimulating iodine uptake and the iodination of thyroglobulin. It also plays a role in glucose metabolism and lipolysis in adipose tissue. Notably, TSH has been identified as a parameter to consider when evaluating potential carcinogenic mechanisms in rodent carcinogenicity tests. The LBIS™ Rat TSH ELISA Kit is a sandwich ELISA kit designed for the quantitative determination of rat TSH. It utilizes two antibodies that recognize both the α- and β-subunits, ensuring high specificity for native TSH.
What is Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH)?
Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), also known as thyrotropin, is a glycoprotein with a molecular weight of approximately 28 kDa. It consists of an α-subunit and β-subunit. The α-subunit of TSH is structurally identical to that of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), whereas the β-subunit is unique to TSH. TSH promotes the synthesis and secretion of thyroid hormones by stimulating iodine uptake and the iodination of thyroglobulin. It also plays a role in glucose metabolism and lipolysis in adipose tissue. Notably, TSH has been identified as a parameter to consider when evaluating potential carcinogenic mechanisms in rodent carcinogenicity tests1).
TSH is produced and secreted by basophilic thyrotrophs in the anterior pituitary. Its secretion is primarily stimulated by thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH), and is indirectly enhanced by factors such as estrogen, insulin, and cold stress. Conversely, TSH secretion is suppressed by thyroid hormones, growth hormone, glucocorticoids, and opioid peptides, as well as by sympathetic nervous system-activating stress and fasting. As a result, circulating TSH levels exhibit diurnal variation.
LBIS™ Rat TSH ELISA Kit
The LBIS™ Rat TSH ELISA Kit is a sandwich ELISA kit designed for the quantitative determination of rat TSH. It utilizes two antibodies that recognize both the α- and β-subunits, ensuring high specificity for native TSH. Due to differences in assay principles, TSH values obtained with this kit may not correspond to the values obtained using conventional competitive radioimmunoassay (RIA) methods, particularly when TSH levels are measured after thyroidectomy or administration of antithyroid drugs.
All reagents are supplied in liquid form and are ready to use. Six standard solutions are provided pre-diluted at defined concentrations.
